Dear seeker,
While doing spiritual
practice, various mistakes are made by
seekers, of which 70% are due to seekers’ shortcomings, and
the remaining 30% of mistakes are due to distressing
energies.
Therefore, it is necessary to remove the shortcomings in seekers
for their spiritual progress. When seekers’ shortcomings
are reduced, satseva performed is free of mistakes and aids in
spiritual practice, that is, helps in spiritual progress.
Therefore, in the Sanatan’s satsangs emphasis is put on
on discussing mistakes made by seekers in their spiritual practice.
On discussing mistakes, seekers learn to develop the habit of introspecting,
become introverted and thus reduce their ego. Similarly, other
seekers avoid making those same mistakes.
There are four stages in overcoming mistakes:
 |
Becoming
aware of a mistake after it has occurred. When the mistake
is pointed out, one becomes aware of the mistake. |
 |
Becoming
aware of a mistake while it is occurring. |
 |
As
one is about to make a mistake, one realizes a mistake is about
to occur and prevents it. |
 |
Incorrect thoughts
do not arise in the mind. Thus, mistakes do not occur. |
Hence, in the initial stages, mistakes
must be pointed out to seekers. Then, by learning to introspect
upon one’s mistakes, a seeker develops the ability to prevent
mistakes as or before they occur. The number and frequency of mistakes
slowly diminishes until mistakes ultimately do not occur at all. |
