Ability to chant with spiritual emotion for 4 hours and 40 minutes, despite no experience in chanting* so much in a day
I have been attending the Sanatan's satsangs and chanting sessions only for the past few weeks. For the special chanting session, held on December 15, 2003 ( we went to the Sanatan’s ashram in Mount Laurel. The chanting was very good and I experienced much love and spiritual emotion (bhav) for Sri Durgadevi throughout. At times, I wondered if I could complete the prescribed 4 hours 40 minutes of chanting, but at the end of the session, was astounded and realized that only God got it done.

[The above experience shows that with sincere desire even a beginning seeker can do spiritual practice thought inconceivable before. Hence, whenever one gets guidance in Spirituality that seems difficult to follow, recalling such experiences, one can maintain sincere desire to follow it, with the faith that if God brings us to it, He also gives the capacity to follow it.

Awakening of spiritual emotion and intense chanting* during bhav satsang

Recently, we conducted the weekly bhav satsang in the altar room. We felt a lot of spiritual emotion during that bhav satsang. At one point, I happened to look up at Lord Ganesh’s picture and it seemed as if His eyes had come alive. They were of the Marak (Destroyer of evil) form. I was in shock for a few moments and then a flood of spiritual emotion went through me. My face felt stretched and tears rolled down continuously. Chanting became extremely focused, as I continued to look at His eyes. For those few minutes, the chanting was intense and occurring with absolute concentration. The entire room misted up and the saffron cloth the deities were placed on shone like gold. At that same time other seekers present also felt a lot more energy in the room.

[Since bhav satsangs have the direct resolve of Sri Durgadevi Herself, participating in them on a weekly basis, as per Her instructions, is a simple way to experience and develop spiritual emotion, as seen above. E-mail us at weekly@sanatan.org for information on bhav satsangs in your area, or participating in them remotely, even in the absence of other seekers.
