The Sanatan's Gurupaurnima* celebration in
Gaborone, Botswana

The Gurupaurnima celebration was held at the residence of seeker Dr. Mrs. Lynda Borkar. In the morning before leaving for work on that day, Mrs. Borkar performed Gurupujan with the help of her husband Mr. Milind Borkar. The Gurupujan was accompanied by recitation of mantras and arati along with singing of, 'Prabhu ya Maya bazari' ('O Lord, in this illusory world'), a devotional song (bhajan) of H. H. Bhaktaraj Maharaj. Mr. and Mrs. Borkar experienced spiritual emotion (bhav) throughout the Gurupujan and also, some of its manifestations (ashtasattvik bhav) when singing the bhajan.

In the evening at 7:30pm a lecture introducing the Sanatan's aim and activities, on the importance of practicing Spirituality and spiritual practice according to the Path of Guru' grace was held. 7 adults and a 15-year-old boy attended the lecture. Afterwards, holy sacrament (prasad) of fruit, sheera and almond milk was offered to all present.

Some of those present narrated their spiritual experiences and got some of their questions on Spirituality clarified. While leaving everyone mentioned that they felt happy during this event.

Spiritual experiences of Mrs. Lynda Borkar
On the day prior to Gurupaurnima I set up the place for Gurupujan and arranged everything required for it. I noticed that chanting** was very good during all the preparations.
It is very cold here due to winter. During Gurupaurnima celebration, I was wearing a sari (a sattvik, Indian garment, suitable for warmer climates). But in spite of not wearing any warm clothing, I did not feel the cold. Throughout Gurupaurnima day, chanting was good and during workhours also I found the time to prepare and rehearse for the lecture.
While preparing the holy sacrament, I was anxious that it should turn out alright, but soon I developed the spiritual emotion that the Guru was getting it done, so everything would be okay.

* This year, Gurupaurnima was on July 24.
