Importance of any activity done for a good cause

Ramana Maharshi was a great Saint from Southern India. Devotees from all over the world came to visit His ashram and receive His blessings.

One day, Ramana Maharshi was pinning some leaves together to make dinner plates for the use in the ashram. A young devotee, who was standing nearby and watching Maharshi, asked, "Gurudev, is it not a waste of Your precious time to do such small tasks that anyone else could have done?" The Saint smiled and said, "My son, no work is a waste of time, if it serves a good purpose and if done in the right way. Making these plates is as important as any other task, because these plates will be used to serve food in the ashram. Besides you can always learn something useful from everything you do."

Moral: Ramana Maharshi teaches us that no task is small as long as we approach it with the correct attitude and do it for a good purpose. The best purpose is to serve God. Hence, we should take every opportunity to serve God, by gratefully participating in any available satseva, be it that of cleaning, cooking, or taking a lecture for a satsang or some other spiritual activity.

Body temperature returns to normal after chanting Ramaraksha stotra and drinking holy ash mixed water
One night recently, my four-year-old daughter, Maitreyee developed sudden fever with chills without any prior symptoms of illness. As we had no medicines at home, my husband had to rush to the pharmacy. Meanwhile, I started reciting the 'Ramaraksha stotra' and gave Maitreyee some water mixed with holy ash*. I also applied some of the holy ash on her forehead. Within a few minutes, much to our relief, Maitreyee's temperature returned to normal.

* Ash from the Maruti yadnyas performed in the Sanatan's ashram in Goa, India a few months ago.

- Mrs. Suhasini Kale, Stamford, USA.

[Reciting the Ramaraksha stotra and applying holy ash or drinking water mixed with holy ash helps in warding off the negative energies. Thus, if one's sickness or other problems are caused by negative energies, such measures help alleviate the problem.
