HJS members stop display of MF Husain's Painting!

HJS members stop display of MF Husain's Painting!

Bangaluru (Karnataka) -Mr. Arvind Baliga, HJS member read a news in 'The Deccan Chronicle', of an art exhibition organised by 'Art Mantram' here.

The theme of the exhibition was - 'Glimpses - From Husain to today', indicating how Bharatiya Art has developed over the years since Husain. Works of senior artists and others were to be show-cased at a city's Five Star Hotel.

Mr. Baliga called up the High Grounds Police station informing them of how MF Husain has hurt the religious sentiments of billions of Hindus by depicting Hindu Deities, and Bharat Mata in the nude. He also requested them to take action to stop the display of Husain's art immediately.

The officer requested Mr. Baliga to come to the Police station and explain the matter. Mr. Baliga called up some Dharma-bhimanis and requested them to call up the organisers and Police asking them to stop the display.

When Mr. Chandresh and Mr. Baliga met the Head Constable at the Police station to submit a complaint letter, he refused to accept it saying that the Police inspector is at the Hotel and no such exhibition is on there. When Mr. Chandresh persisted with his request, the constable gave him the inspector's mobile number. The inspector refused to lodge any complaint as he claimed that Husain's painting had been removed. Only on Mr. Chandresh's insistence did he reluctantly agree and gave instructions to the constable to give an acknowledge-ment of the letter.

At the Hotel, one of the lady-organisers of the Exhibition asked why HJS wanted to oppose the innocent art of Husain. To this Mr. Baliga counter-questioned, "What merits did Husain's art warrant for his paintings to be on display, despite full knowledge of his contemptible depiction of Hindu Deities?"

When the lady tried to explain about freedom of expression, Mr. Baliga countered her argument asking whether they were ready to display Art or Jewellery from the collections of Dawood Ibrahim? He also informed her that 1250 complaints have been filed by HJS against Husain for intentionally depicting Hindu Deities and Bharat Mata in nude and vulgar forms.

This reply seemed to have struck home; another organiser Mr. Siddhartha Kumar Singh immediately arranged to handover a letter confirming the withdrawal of the paintings.

Appreciation of HJS Style!
Later Mr. Singh said that he had also criticised Husain for depicting Bharat Mata in the nude. Mr. Singh's entire family appreciated HJS members for their approach and indicated that they would also like to join HJS and be involved in the cause of upholding Dharma and protecting the Nation.
