H.H. Dr. Athavale's & Other Messages

Have an intense desire from within for your spiritual practice to go on well!
The guiding seekers are always thinking about the samashti (collective) work. Hence, whenever they read or a good thought comes to mind, they think of who to share it with or who will benefit by it.

This is essential for samashti sadhana. We should also think how we can implement the points for our own spiritual practice to make it better. In spiritual practice it is essential to have an intense desire from within to improve our spiritual practice. Even while doing samashti sadhana, we should not forget about this desire.
- H.H. Dr. Athavale

Importance of a friend in spiritual practice!
Many seekers are not able to speak of what is on their mind. Due to this, the thoughts keep accumulating and they do not make expected spiritual progress. Not being able to speak out their mind is a sign of ego.

Hence, while doing spiritual practice we must have at least one friend, who can help at the spiritual level and not at an emotional level.
- H.H. Dr. Athavale

Do not be biased and get stuck in the past!
Many seekers remember old incidences and get stuck in the past. Instead, if they chant, they will awaken their bhav and move ahead in Spirituality.
- H. H. Dr. Athavale

Benefit of asking others!
By always asking others, we get rid of the personality defect of listening to our own mind. We learn to do as per other's wish (known as pareccha).

By asking others, the stress due to thoughts of how to perform gets reduced. Even if a person tells us to do the wrong thing, we develop an attitude of asking and there is spiritual progress. The person telling us the wrong thing has to bear the consequences, and not the person who asks.
- H. H. Dr. Athavale

First build up your competence and then act by asking God!
Many seekers say we ask God, or we ask God and then act.

Seekers should remember the following view point.

We must have the competence to ask God. This is created only after the spiritual level reaches 60%. Till then asking God and getting an answer is like getting a dream of whatever is on our mind. Also, it can be the negative energy, taking advantage and fooling us.

By saying, "I ask God and act", can increase our ego. In the gross, the seekers must first develop the habit of asking and try do as per others wish.

Maximise your spiritual practice and develop the ability to ask God and do things.
Remember to pray to God all the time, to perform the right actions. - H. H. Dr. Athavale

Do not remain under a wrong impression, by knowing just the theory in Spirituality!
I asked one seeker who is doing spiritual practice for many years, but not progressing, "You progressed up to a point and then the progress stopped. What is the reason?" He replied, "One is being content with little, and the other reason is that I was graced by the Guru but I could not sustain it."
- Adv. Yogesh Jaltare, Sanatan Ashram, Ramnathi, Goa.

(Seekers should not use big words like 'Guru's grace' (Gurukrupa). To have Gurukrupa, first you have to become a disciple. You must introspect if you have reached the stage of a disciple. And to say this, before you have reached that stage would only be at a psychological level.

Hence, do not be under a wrong impression only by knowing just the theory in Spirituality. - H. H. Dr. Athavale)

Chant, instead of remaining in a thoughtless state!
During chanting some seekers go into a thoughtless state. Then they wonder whether this state is appropriate or not.

The following view-point should be kept in mind:
1. Those with negative energy distress should see how they can chant, rather than being in the thoughtless state, because the negative energies create a situation like this so that chanting does not take place.

2. Those who do not have negative energy distress, can experience once or twice the thoughtless state. But they should study what they felt at that time and whether they felt Bliss and then chant, rather than continuing in the thoughtless state.

3. Only those who are above 80% spiritual level can reach a thoughtless state and not be affected by negative energies.
- H.H. Dr. Athavale

Importance of developing seekership qualities!
If we do not develop seekership qualities, we cannot have seekers. What we can develop without the qualities, will be just a 'worker'.
- H. H. Dr. Athavale

Try to understand the meaning of messages in Sanatan Prabhat, immediately introspect, and put them into action!
On 25th August 2008, one message was published for seekers in Dainik Sanatan Prabhat. It was on the guiding seekers realising the dangers that lie ahead in spiritual practice and taking necessary precautions immediately.

It was expected that all seekers who are doing spiritual practice for many years and have some responsibility (like conducting satsangs), but have not progressed, should introspect.

In reality, all those seekers did not introspect and write in their introspection. They felt the message was not for them. Remember that all the messages are for each and every one of us. We must introspect, and take necessary action on them. If you do not understand something, get it clarified.

Due to our personality defect of not asking, we do not progress spiritually. Hence, all seekers who are doing spiritual practice for many years and not progressing should introspect and decide what action needs to be taken.
- H. H. Dr. Athavale

Chant in Temples!
Temples are more sattvik (pure) than our homes; chanting occurs better in a temple.
