The means which bestows The Lord’s
grace and the Final Liberation (Moksha) to those undertaking
spiritual practice according to the Path of Devotion (Bhaktiyoga)
is intense devotion unto The Lord. Sage Narad, while elucidating
about devotion says in the Naradiya Bhaktisutra that devotion
is deep love for The Lord. For a devotee to reach a state wherein
such intense love for The Lord is generated, he should have
an awareness that God exists, with intensity. Thereafter he
has to develop an intense attraction towards Him. This itself
is known as spiritual emotion (bhav) towards God. Without spiritual
emotion it is not possible to develop devotion (bhakti).
This holy text elucidates in a lucid manner,
the theoretical aspects such as the components of spiritual
emotion, what is the importance of spiritual emotion, etc.,
while simultaneously discussing how to awaken spiritual emotion
in oneself while performing the ritual of waving lit lamps
(arti), offering prayer and gratitude, repeating (chanting)
The Lord’s Name and rendering service unto the Absolute
Truth (satseva). How spiritual emotion can be awakened even
while performing every action in day-to-day life and not only
during spiritual practice is also described in this holy text.
