Donation should always be to the ‘deserving’,
i.e., ‘to those worthy of it’. In this world, there are
none more worthy than saints. Hence, whatever one wishes to donate,
one
should offer to them alone.
Saints and Guru’s are the manifest
(physical) forms of the unmanifest God. Hence any offering made to
saints and the Guru is an offering to God Himself. Offering to God
what belongs to God Himself does not create a ‘give and take
account’, instead it settles accounts. As such, offering to
saints reduces sanchit (accumulated account) and increases the ability
to withstand the effects of destiny. Moreover, neither is any ‘give
and take account’ created nor are any merits acquired. Hence,
whatever is to be offered, should be given only to saints or unto
the mission of the The Truth.
Here is an example of a seekers offering to God
Teenager
unconditionally offers her savings for Guru Purnima celebration
For
the past few years, I have been regularly chanting and attending
satsangs conducted by the Sanatan. Once some time ago, we faced
a lot of financial difficulties. During that time, we were forced
to borrow money from the savings of our fifteen-year-old daughter,
Shital. She lent us the money from time to time, but always kept
some conditions and reminded us to return the money as soon as
possible. It was during this period of financial difficulties that
Guru Purnima
was approaching. We had the desire to offer some money for the
Guru Purnima celebration. While my husband and I were discussing
about
pawning my jewelry, my daughter unconditionally offered us her
savings. Further, she never once reminded us about returning her
money, even
after four months. We were very happy and grateful that the Guru
fulfilled our wish of offering money for Guru Purnima.
