A milestone: Husain felicitation cancelled

According to Bombay Art Gallery's Chairperson, Mr. Raut, who spoke to Sanatan Sanstha's reporter, the felicitation of Husain has been cancelled. It is understood that the organisation committee saw Husain's denigrating paintings and asked Husain not to attend and Husain too, had decided not to attend. So, according to Mr. Raut, this year, there will be no Roopadhar felicitation, but the money from that award will be distributed among needy artists.

Mr. Raut added that, given that Husain would not be at the function, the Gallery was still requesting the Maharashtra Governor's attendance at the function. The Governor had told them that he would not attend amidst controversy.

Over the last 48 hours protestors from all over the world emailed the Governor of Maharashtra voicing their strong objection to felicitation of Husain with the Roopadhar 2006 award.

The collective prompt and loud protests from protestors like you have yielded this welcome result. Let us continue with our efforts, until M.F. Husain and all such individuals, who callously denigrate Holy symbols and Dharma, are brought to justice.
